The productivity and entrepreneurial worlds run on the idea of core methodologies. Essentially, the theory is that if you just adopt and stick with one, you’ll transform your life, business, whatever.
Every method or productivity tool that we’re sold basically says “If you just do this the way I teach you, you’ll be successful.”
This is how this shows up:
- This planner is perfect and will change your life.
- This app will organize your business for good!
- This productivity routine will revolutionize your workweek.
- This budgeting app will transform your finances.
And you’ll read various reviews and testimonials claiming that [insert amazing thing here] has done just that.
And if you try it and it doesn’t work for you, it’s inevitably your fault for not sticking with it, not being disciplined enough, or not trying hard enough.
What’s worse is that this is so prevalent, that it’s easy to internalize it without realizing it.
It seeps into us that we’re lazy, undisciplined, or there’s something wrong with us because these things are obviously getting results for other people.
And the more times we try and the more times we fail, the easier it is to believe that as the common denominator, we’re the issue.
