The Neurodivergent
Entrepreneur Toolkit
A guide to curating tools and resources to help you work with your specially-wired brain, instead of against it.
Tough Love:
THERE IS NO PERFECT SYSTEM OR MAGIC WAND

The productivity and entrepreneurial worlds run on the idea of core methodologies. Essentially, the theory is that if you just adopt and stick with one, you’ll transform your life, business, whatever.

Every method or productivity tool that we’re sold basically says “If you just do this the way I teach you, you’ll be successful.”

This is how this shows up:

  • This planner is perfect and will change your life.
  • This app will organize your business for good!
  • This productivity routine will revolutionize your workweek.
  • This budgeting app will transform your finances.

And you’ll read various reviews and testimonials claiming that [insert amazing thing here] has done just that.

And if you try it and it doesn’t work for you, it’s inevitably your fault for not sticking with it, not being disciplined enough, or not trying hard enough.

What’s worse is that this is so prevalent, that it’s easy to internalize it without realizing it.

It seeps into us that we’re lazy, undisciplined, or there’s something wrong with us because these things are obviously getting results for other people.

And the more times we try and the more times we fail, the easier it is to believe that as the common denominator, we’re the issue.

But here's the truth...

The common denominator is that we’re being sold methodologies that are designed for neurotypical people.

Consistency works for them. Choosing a methodology and going all-in works for them.

It doesn’t work for us.

Sometimes in the short-term, it does, then we fall off the wagon for whatever reason, and once again, we’re smacked in the face with an opportunity to internalize that there’s something wrong with us.

So what’s the solution?

you need a toolkit, not a methodology.
and a mindset change to go with it.

The happiest, most fulfilling times in my life have come when I’ve embraced this.

When I’m open to switching up methodologies and tools to suit how I’m feeling on a given day or operating best in a season, I’m not being held back by the neuro-typical expectations.

This looks like having systems that I use when they work, and don’t feel bad about dropping when they don’t. And being okay with circling back to them when they do.

Sometimes this looks like allowing for redundancy and being cool with it.

Most often this looks like having a toolkit of sustainable systems and flexible tools that are built to withstand my ever-changing needs and tolerances.

Complicated systems that fall into a chaotic nest if I ignore them for a few days (or weeks, or months) are not helpful.

Spending time trying to create the “perfect” system that I’ll finally be able to stick to is a waste of time and energy.

Happiness is delighting in using something from my toolkit that fits where I’m at on the spectrum of focus and energy today.

Joy comes from achieving my goals without feeling guilty about not sticking to some unrealistic expectation set by someone whose brain isn’t wired like mine.

so...how do i know this works?

Hey, there!
I'm Dani Schnakenberg

I’m a business systems strategist, serial entrepreneur, and homeschooling mom of five. And I have ADHD.

The Neurodivergent Entrepreneur Toolkit was born from my own desperation.

I felt like I was a constant failure who couldn’t stick to anything and just needed to be more disciplined.

But one day I began to question why I should have to be so terribly consistent to be successful.

I realized I needed to let go of finding the one system that would magically make me productive.

Instead, I began curating a toolkit of habits, strategies, and resources that helped me get things done based on where I was at any given time.

Rather than relying on a static system, I could choose the tools I needed based on my focus and energy levels, and the project at hand.

And it worked.

By letting go of the unrealistic expectation of using the same system and set of tools each and every day, a mental weight lifted.

Now I have strategies that work for me. I have tools that work when I’m tired and unfocused, or I can choose a different set when I’m feeling creative and motivated.

What exactly is in a neurodivergent's toolkit?
Hint: It's up to you!

My goal is to introduce you to a variety of tools that could be candidates for your own toolkit. Keep what works for you, toss what doesn’t.

Habits

These are things that you do. To be clear, they aren’t things you do daily or every time a situation pops up (mostly), but they are actions you can pull out and use when it’s appropriate.

Examples are body-doubling, accountability, using rituals, setting timers, mindful movement, and intentional fidgets.

Methods

These are used a little less frequently than habit tools and are often applied to specific projects or goals.

Examples are energy management, service structures, momentum vs motivation, weekly/monthly reviews, time blocking, batching, creating minimum viable products, or “Close the Loop” days/weeks.

Physical Tools

These are the actual physical items that are part of your toolkit.

Some are used daily (headphones, dual monitors, smartwatches, iPads), while others are used only when needed (whiteboards, fidgets, mediation pillow, candles, notebooks, fancy pens, Rocket Book, easel pad).

Digital Tools

These are apps, software, and organizational methods. Sometimes these are set-it-and-forget-it systems that run in the background and make life easier. Other times they are active systems.

Examples are having a digital business hub, using a task manager, scheduling automation, automated client onboarding, and file-, inbox-, or password-management.

Toolkits are meant to be curated to your specific needs and natural tendencies, and they are constantly evolving.

There are no rules about what can be in your toolkit.

The point is just that you have defined resources that you can call on to help you get things done.

so, what's in it for you?

Through this guide, I’ll be introducing you to a variety of tools that you can include in your own personal toolkit. These tools will range from habits and methods you can apply ASAP, to systems and products you may choose to incorporate as they feel right.

Most of the tools I’ll be teaching you will directly apply to how we can work with our neurodivergent brains and executive dysfunction instead of fighting against ourselves or trying to “fix” things.

Building your toolkit does not mean you need to buy a bunch of new things or sign up for a bunch of new apps.

There are lots of things that are free or already exist in your world that you can add to your toolkit.

There are no formal rules for what goes in your toolkit. No things it must include, no right or wrong ways to do this.

While I do share some ideas, it’s all about taking what resonates with you and leaving what doesn’t.

The whole point of developing a toolkit is to intentionally develop habits, methods, and resources that you can use when you need them.

There will be plenty of times that you recognize a tool that already exists in your life, but didn’t see it as something you can intentionally choose to use.
